WHY MUST MR PRESIDENT REMOVE FUEL SUBSIDY

A friend of mine from Kenya Lydia Webuye posted on her wall that “for evil to flourish, all that is needed is for good people to do nothing” Edmund Burke. Come January 1, 2012, the fuel subsidy will be removed. President Goodluck Jonathan and his acquaintances have made up their minds to do so, and further encouraged by the World Bank and pundits from the West who insist that subsidy is so terrible that it would destroy Nigeria. The president has also told Nigerian that if we do not remove the subsidy, Nigeria would start importing fuel from Ghana and Cameroon in 15 years.
Mr president forgets that, we currently import fuel from a nation like Singapore, togo and other countries that do not produce a drop of crude oil, and we are also probably about to start importing fuel from Niger Republic, and may be chad a countries much poorer than Nigeria. Niger actually deliberately planned to reap from Nigeria’s poor management by siting its refinery, with a capacity far in excess of what they need, very close to our border. The Zinder refinery, which produce 30,000 barrels per day, has Nigerian investors as it major backers although unconfirmed. The refinery shall. The Nigeriens need only 10,000 daily; the balance of 20,000 barrels is meant for Nigeria.
Subsidy removal or no subsidy removal, as long as the current level of corruption around government is not harshly dealt with, it will take much less than the president’s 15 years for us to start importing fuel from Ghana and Cameroon. In fact, some desperately poor countries like Burkina Faso and Mali will take advantage of our failed system and build refineries, import our crude, refine it and then sell back to us at a huge profit; just as Singapore and other non oil producing countries are doing today. Singapore currently refines two million barrels of crude daily even though it does not produce any oil.  Other non oil producers are coming to this country and buying up our Oil Blocks, The Chinese for instance, why can we not asked them to also help us with the repairs of our refineries as they have done with Niger Republic.  Oh I forgot, China is not in the good books of World Bank so they cannot advise on them and Nigerian Leaders are to Western Gullible to see any sense in the Idea.

We are aware that some corrupt Nigerian are ripping huge profit from Fuel Subsidy, it is the Governments responsibility to make sure that does not happen,  the should look into the reasons why our refineries do not work, fish out those responsible, probe them publicly and then make sure the refineries are put back in order before even considering Fuel Subsidy removal.  The masses feel that Government is passing the problem of Fuel Subsidy on the masses alone without they taking responsibility for the cause.

Nigerian DO NOT ACCEPT FUEL SUBSIDY BECAUSE IT IS UNFAIR TO THE NIGERIAN CITIZENS.

EMANCIPATE NIGERIAN NOW, AND IT BEGINS WITH ME AND YOU. REMEMBER THAT Those who failed to respond to their changing world will have less influence in it
