Hypocrites As Prayer Warriors: How Can God Heal Nigeria

By Obinna Akukwe reposted from sahara reporters

In Nigeria it is prayer everywhere. The Churches, the Mosques, the Shrines, the forests, mountains, rivers, trees and every available space have been turned to prayer centers and yet the most insensitive governance is hoisted on the nation. Armed robbery, ritual killings, kidnappings, rape and injustice abounds everywhere.
Poverty, sickness, despair, frustration and attendant mediocrity, loss of confidence and resort to negative tendencies are the results of all our prayers. Now we have the newest addition, suicide bombings and reckless waste of human lives.
A lot of people of people have asked the question . Where is God when all these happens everyday?

Nigerians pray all manners of prayers- 70 day fasting, 70 day deliverance, 40 day sallat, sallah fast, pilgrimage to Jerusalem, pilgrimage to Mecca and other dedicated sites of worship and yet you cannot entrust an adherent with your spouse for 24 hours.

During General Sanni  Abacha military regime, prayer marabous were imported from Mali, Siera-leone and Senegal when their Nigerian counterpart failed to kill NADECO with prayer.
These professional prayer warriors couldn't tell Abacha that Nigerians were tired of his dictatorship. During Olusegun Obasanjo civilian Presidency a lot of prayer warriors in the villa were busy impregnating youth corpers serving in the villa in the guise of securing permanent employment for them while the tenure elongation wanted to tear the polity.  Obasanjo saw so much prayer hypocrisy that he had to resort to a combination of Africana and his faith to survive. Another group of prayer warriors have held President Goodluck hostage in the villa. They frighten him every time with gory prophecies while smiling to the banks.

Everywhere people are praying. All these prayers are hypocritical prayers.
The Bible says in 2 chronicles chapter 7 vs 14 thus “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” The prerequisite for God to answer these prayers and heal Nigeria is repentance. David humbled himself when he was told by Prophet Nathan in the Bible that he had sinned. He tore his clothes and wept for many days until God had compassion. His Nigerian counterpart will do the opposite.

He will travel to Jerusalem and Mecca and in the midst of the solemn ceremonies will excuse himself to co-ordinate how the next looting of government treasury will be clinically executed, and then he will get back to finish the ceremonies. Once the pilgrimage is over the Nigerian prayer warrior comes back to his church or mosque with air of answered prayers, having met the Almighty in the mountain of transfiguration. Then the  poverty stricken congregation will hang around him to receive favors from  him( after nights of fasting and days of salat for God to touch his heart).
God must be seriously solicited to touch the heart of the looter of public fund or else his church or mosque member will not receive any crumbs from the arrogantly distributed loot.

The impoverished parishioner or mosque member knows that his religious co-member was part of the people who directly or indirectly put him in a state of poverty, insecurity, hopelessness and helplessness and therefore he equally begs God to give him the opportunity to partake of the looting of the national wealth since the congregational leader have not cared to query his thieving but important member on the source of the loot.

The prayer warrior in Nigerian church or mosque is a hypocrite. Let his congregational priest or malam sermonize against sin, corruption, greed, inhumanity to man and disrespect for the feelings of others and he will get offended and leave the congregation while withdrawing his much needed funds.
However, call for prayer that all his enemies will die including the members of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and Justices about to reverse stolen electoral mandates and you will see all sorts of acrobatics, gymnastics, incantations, invocations and madness all in the name of prayer.

There is no doubt that 'he that comes to equity must come with clean hands'. A thousand noise makers may be in a church but God hears only the ten who have decided in their heart not to follow the bandwagon if given the opportunity. If the combined prayer inertia of these ten men cannot move God or ward off the impending evil, then calamity is visited on everybody.
That is the problem the nation is having with this Boko Haram and other problems plaguing the nation.

The dynamics of prayer is such that if your prayer is for personal or family matters, you could easily connect into the remote sites where the angels will attend to you on behalf of God. However, if your prayer were of general application, corporate in nature and of concern to the masses of people in your territory then another dynamics will apply. You must be sufficiently qualified before you can represent a state, region or nation in a prayer bouquet. A hypocrite could pray personal prayer and God will still answer because he is stirring personal spiritual space, however you must have enough locus standi before you stir a communal spiritual space in a prayer session. You must be potentially better than those you are praying against.

Let the Nigerian prayer warrior decide to live by the tenets of his faith which is “do unto others as you wish others do unto you” and before you raise your voice louder (even in a bush or batcher or atop mango tree) the Almighty God will answer and drive off those evil rulers who refuse to change for the better, out of our political space on their way to perdition.

BREAKING NEWS: 2011 Presidential Campaign- What GEJ Knew About The N1.76tr Oil Subsidy Payment

Information recently made available to Emancipate Nigeria NOW  through sources within the power corridors of the federal capital of Nigeria, Abuja, indicates that there appear jolting intricacies laden within the sudden quantum-like spike in oil subsidy payments to select oil marketers/importers during the period immediately proceeding the presidential elections of April 2011 [February to April 2011] and the period immediately following the said elections [April to August 2011] – which coincided with the arrival of Ngozi Okonjo Iweala as the Finance Minister for the Ministry of Finance in August 17, 2011.

A principal and knowledgeable source within the Jonathan administration indicates that the sudden “quantum-leap” in the payment of oil subsidy payments was not a mistake. “The President knew about it” said the source who explained that fake submissions for oil subsidy payments were approved and disbursements were made – and the monies were used towards financing the President’s election of 2011.

On the afternoon of January 11, 2011,  two days to the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] presidential primaries at the Eagles Square in Abuja, the source, pointed to the huge ["staggering"] amount withdrawn from the Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN] for “classified” expenditure. The sum withdrawn, according to the source, was in excess of N150billion.

The money was withdrawn for use against the threat posed by the PDP opponent [Abubakar Atiku] to President Jonathan. Atiku was said to be in a critical race against the president for delegates. The Jonathan campaign had received intelligence the Atiku campaign reached out to 3000 delegates and had disbursed the sum of $3000 to each delegate in exchange for their votes [3000 delegates would give Atiku the victory over Jonathan]. In reaction, the Presidency had to raise immediate ‘cash’ to avert what would appear an embarrassing loss. Within 24hours, the President’s campaign team raised the booty on Atiku – by offering each of the 3000 delegates $7000 in exchange for their votes – an equivalent total of $21million [N3.381billion]. The $7,000 was paid in foreign currency and an additional amount of N250,000 in local currency was handed to each of the 3000 delegates for “hotel and transport” costs – equivalent to a total of N750million. On the night of January 13, 2011, on the day of the PDP presidential primaries, the sum of N4.13billion [N750million + N3.381billion] was disbursed by the Jonathan campaign. And so victory was secured.

Following the victory at the Eagles Square, the President’s campaign re-focused its attention to consultations [taming] with political groups within the North who were unhappy with Jonathan’s candidacy and believed that President Jonathan should have stepped down for a northern candidate – in line with the zoning agreement previously reached by the party. For this, the president’s men made extensive consultations with each of the Emirs in Northern Nigeria and with other leaders of thought in the north. Confidential information available to 247ureports.com reveals that the consultation exercises, by the end of January 2011, cost the President’s campaign an excess of N500million.

The Jonathan campaign took an interesting turn as it entered February 2011. A fleet of private Jets was leased from four major carriers -King Airlines, Wings Aviation, Top Brazz and Overland – for use towards the national campaign. The normal charge for per hour of each aircraft was $6000 per hour – and the Jets operated at 70 hours per week. The Jonathan campaign paid the rate of $10,000 per hour - for the period of 10weeks – equating to an amount of N100million daily – totaling to an equivalent of N10.5billion for the said period.

Then came the February 14, 2011 billionaires meeting where the 28-member Presidential Campaign Council [PCC] was set up at the Eko Hotel in Lagos. The billionaires consisted of Aliko Dangote, Otedola, Adenuga, Elumelu, Jimoh Ibrahim, Emeka Offor, Kasim Bukar, Sayyu Dantata, Jim Ovia and others. And as the PCC which was primarily tasked with raising funds for the campaign began work in February of 2011, the oil subsidy requests for payment also began to experience a quantum leap from the budgeted N245billion to N1.7trillion.

Interestingly, the Petroleum Resources Minister, Mrs Allison Madueke and the Finance Minister, Mrs Okonjo Iweala while testifying before the House of Representative Committee investigating the Oil Subsidy funds management indicated that the amount disbursed as at February 2011 was N245billion – and that beginning from March 2011 the amounts submitted for approval suddenly surged.

Explaining the surge, the source pointed to the personalities within the 28-member billionaire PCC as directly responsible for the surge from N245billion to N1.7trillion. According to the source, shortly following the formation of the PCC, Sayyu Dantata, a member,  through his company, MRS Oil submitted a N225billion oil subsidy request for payment, Femi Otedola, through his company, AP, submitted a N105billion oil subsidy request for payment, a ‘mysterious’ construction company by the name Pinnacle Construction also submitted a claim for N300billion – during the same period.

It was during the same period that Stella Odua Ogiemwonyi who was one of the leaders in the Jonathan campaign organization filed a claim that she had spent her own personal money to the tuned of N5billion – for the maintenance of the campaign secretariat.  Stella Odua Ogiemwonyi is the Chief Executive Officer of Sea Petroleum and Gas. Interestingly,  her company submitted claims for oil subsidy payments in excess of N5billion. Her claim was approved and paid.

Cursory inquiry confirms that a significant percentage of the claims submitted by the members of the PCC were fraudulent. The fraudulent oil subsidy claims freed the President’s ability to spend in a manner deemed unprecedented by informed experts.

On March 16, 2011, the campaign released N55million to a media company [name withheld] for a single advertisement slot. By March 31, 2011, the campaign paid N7.3billion in advertisements. On March 28, 2011, it donated one car and one bus to each of the 36 chapters around the country and the FCT – along with a cash donation of N14million to each chapter [totaling N518million]. In monetary terms, its equates to a little over N1billion. Between April 12 and April 15, 2011, the campaign disbursed N107billion.

When approached regarding the source of the exorbitant spending, the Director of the Neighbor to Neighbor Initiative [the main NGO funding and managing the Jonathan campaign], Mr. Mike Omeri stated the donations came from online contributors.

Comparing the yearly trending of the oil subsidy claims submitted from 2006 to 2011, highlights the anomaly  in the oil subsidy claims between March 2011 and August 2011. In 2006, subsidy claims was submitted for 26.9million liters of petrol for the amount N200billion, in 2008, subsidy claims was submitted for 33.4million liters of petrol for the amount N630billion, and for 2010, subsidy claims was submitted for less than 33million liters of petrol for a little over N600billion.

And so it begs the question, What the President knew about the N1.76trillion subsidy payment.

The questions I keep asking:

BY  Yemi Aderinto
1. Where has been this battle ground, North or South?
2. Who has suffered the highest casualties, North or South?

3. Whose economy and development has been severely affected. North/South?

4. Is there a differentiation of the innocent souls in terms of tribes and religion before they are massacred?

5. If their intention is to destabilise Nigeria, Doesn't it make sense for BH to have spread their area of operation of doom outside the north(God forbid) or is it dumb for them to know oil infrastructures can be easily targeted and would have greater impact?

6. Asking defenceless emirs/Northern leaders to continue speaking in face of death that has happened that were vocal, is not an invitation to suicide to confront a deadly sect our security forces has not been able to contain?

7. Is this the first time BH will rear its ugly head? BH existed since 2002.

8. What did OBJ do when tribal militias were spreading mostly in the South East(Bakassi, MASSOB,etc) , South West(OPC) and South South(MEND & many others?

9. Is this the first time a regime in this country will have challenges of managing a tribal or religious militia displaying extremism?

10. How was the deadly Maitasine sect handled in 1984?

11. Why is it that we treated deaths of innocents differently. We made noise to the highest mountain when Christmas Day/Madalla incident happened? But we kept mum when double the casualties happened at Ezza/ Ezillo New year day? It can be tolerated if it happens in our enclaves? They were not Christians? Their death cannot be tolerated if it happen in the north?

12. Why was the incident not given the same attention, condemnations, press release, communique by our Southern/Christian leaders?

OPEN LETTER TO MR PRESIDENT: (IT IS TIME TO DON THE TOGA OF THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF)

by Ohunene Scott-Ananaba

 Dear Mr President,

Writing to you is the only way I can assuage the feelings of anger I have had to put up with since receiving news of the death of Enenche Akogwu of Channels TV, who sadly has become a statistic in the head count of victims of the Boko Haram insurgency. Much as I commiserate with you and all other Nigerians on the unfortunate incident that occured in Kano yesterday, I would also like to state unequivocally, that I will not attempt to absolve you of “blame” in the seeming reluctance on your part to thoroughly deal with ENEMIES OF STATE and especially the PERCIEVED ENEMIES WITHIN. Sir, you have a responsibility to the Nigerian people in the wake of the state of insecurity in the Country. You are our Chief Security Officer and for good or bad, the buck ends with you. I want to remind you of the oath you took back in May, to amongst other things protect us from every conceivable threat to our Nation's security albeit external or internal. Sir, excuses or defence even by someone like me that supports you, will no longer be acceptable. Excuses would not bring closure to the grief of the many families whose loved ones were victims of these beasts in the past few months.

I recall shortly after you became President in 2010 following the demise of your predecessor, you requested that you should not be addressed by the C-in-C tag but rather just simple Mr President would suffice. Today I urge you to don the toga of the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF and assume the stance that comes with it. By reason of that title and position, the Service Chiefs are in the spirit of espirit de corp under obligation to be at your flank and I refuse to believe that the BH can muster the Manpower or Arsenal to match that of the combined Nigerian Armed Forces and Intelligence Services if it comes to that.  However it seems that what they may be lacking in hardware and personnel they have a quantum of  in "WILL".  And sadly it’s a WILL that unites them to follow through on an agenda of the annihilation of the Nigerian State under your watch.

Sir, I wouldn’t want to believe that you haven’t noticed what seems to have become a worrisome trend, or perhaps for lack of a better term, an emerging pattern in the "ways and means" these acts of terror occur. I can't help but wonder if it isn't an "Insider" collaborating with an "outsider". No longer can I vouch for the integrity of our intelligence service- yes, call me a conspiracy theorist- but I am quite sure their ranks have been compromised and there are “MOLES” in the crevices of the ROCK. With the benefit of hindsight, I now wonder why the first major BH suspect who would have proven a useful asset in nipping this “Wahala” in the bud was so hurriedly executed and extra judiciously for that matter?; Imagine, the ‘’Madalla Bomb Mastermind” was supposedly arrested in the company of no less a government official in a State government owned guest house for that matter (what effrontery), did it come as any surprise then when he “escaped?; How and from where did the news that he had been rearrested emanate from?, and how come barely 18 hours after, the police was offering a 50 Million Naira bounty for information leading to his arrest?; how come the blasts of yesterday occurred within the timeline window when you were on the verge of chopping some 'BIG' heads if the 'Abaji Escapee' wasn't apprehended?, most importantly, have you wondered why there were no bomb blasts during the fuel subsidy removal face off? Is it that the master minds felt that the unfolding events back then where themselves capable of leading to an IMPLOSION and the end of your administration? The questions in my mind are endless.

The issues are all so muddled up that with hindsight, I have now concluded that your victory at the Polls last May is akin to what Dr Adebimpe Onifade referred to as an “invitation to anarchy” in his article (see the link below); that was published on May 27 2003, just two days shy of the beginning of OBJ's second term. Reading it kind of put things in perspective for me and I think you should find time to read it too http://nigeriaworld.com/feature/publication/onifade/052703.html  I mean, considering the various threats and counter threats of how the Country will become ungovernable if you succeed; I would have thought that you would have embarked on a thorough house cleaning once things began to mount up at the beginning. I want to remind you of a Yoruba adage that says "the witch cries at night and the child dies in the morning". Like many other Nigerians, I am growing weary and troubled.

Suffice it to say Sir; much as I am sure you are on top of the situation, we would be better served if the majority don't see you as playing  “Possum” any longer.  I therefore urge you to confront this issue with the expediency and thoroughness it deserves that we , the people will see the results we so desperately need. At this point it doesn’t matter whose ox is gored, all I know is that this is the time for you like I earlier mentioned to don the toga of the COMMANDER –IN- CHIEF, this is the time for you to step up to the plate. When it comes to the safety and peace of mind of all Nigerians, no act against this people in my opinion will be “illegal” as far as it guarantees our safety; we have the US situation Room incident as an antecedent. It’s time to pull out all the stops.

This is a defining moment that will determine the content of the chronicles of your administration for posterity. Whatever steps you take from hereon will determine whether Nigeria as we know it SINKs or FLOATs under your watch.
Remain assured of the sincerity of my highest regards.
God Bless You,
God Bless Us All.
God Bless Nigeria.
